What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is the art and science of stimulating one’s own bodies ability to create healing forces by locating and stimulating certain points on the body that affect organs or functions in distant parts of the body. It is a form of compression massage. Reflexology uses pressure to areas of the feet, hands and ears. Reflexology is based on the principles that reflex points in the hands, feet and ears correspond to all organs, glands and area of the body.

Reflexology in the West is also known as zone therapy. There are ten zones that run longitudinally from the top of the head to the hands and feet. It is the practice of squeezing, massaging or pushing on parts of the feet (sometimes hands and ears) stimulating a beneficial effect on parts of the body or general health.

Reflexology can relieve tension by stimulating activity of the internal organs, improve blood and lymph circulation, and help to normalize body functions. Learning the true maps of the feet is imperative to the practice of reflexology.
