What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is the art and science of stimulating the body’s own healing forces by locating and stimulating certain points on the body that affect organs or functions in distant parts of the body. It is a form of compression massage, using mainly the thumbs in a technique called thumb walking. Reflexology is based on the principles that reflex points in the hands and feet are related to every organ and area of the body.

The roots of reflexology have been dated as far back as more than 4,000 years ago with patented hieroglyphs in ancient Egypt. Reflexology as it is known in the West began as zone therapy. There are ten zones that run longitudinally from the top of the head to the hands and feet.

By applying pressure to a reflex point, the practitioner can stimulate certain beneficial changes in a distant area of the body related to that point. For example, when reflex massage is given to certain points on the big toe, it is said to relieve headache and tension. Activating these links through stimulating reflex points can relieve tension, improve the blood supply to certain regions of the body, and help to normalize body functions.

During a reflexology session, the practitioner works on each foot, feeling for these inconsistencies and sensitive areas, keeping in constant communication with the client. Learning the true maps of the feet is imperative to the practice of reflexology. The basic routine varies from practitioner to practitioner, but usually follows each zone from heel to toe. Routines can last anywhere from 20 minutes to 90.

Microdermabrasion treatments are a non-surgical way to rejuvenate the skin.  Our courses provide you with the proper training that is essential to reaching your potential.  Microdermabrasion treatments resurfaces the skin by removing the outer layers of the epidermis. Each pass removes a precise amount of surface cells revealing newer and healthier skin, reducing uneven pigmentation while smoothing scars and blemishes. Age and skin condition determine the number of treatments required.  At New Dimensions Beauty Academy we train our students with the highest level of techniques to perform Microdermabrasion and Chemical Peels with confidence and knowledge that they are giving their client the best treatments for their skin possible.

Chemical peels can improve the skin’s appearance. In the treatments, a chemical solution is applied to the skin, which makes it “blister” and eventually peel off. The new skin is usually smoother and less wrinkled than the old skin. Chemical peels can be done on the face, neck, or hands. They can be used to:

  • Reduce fine lines under the eyes and around the mouth
  • Treat wrinkles caused by sun damage and aging
  • Improve the appearance of mild scars
  • Treat certain types of acne
  • Reduce age spots, freckles, and dark patches (melasma) due to pregnancy or taking birth control pills
  • Improve the look and feel of skin
